 BlackBerry Phonebook
Solution In general BlackBerries have the ability to auto sync the phone book. However, sometimes for various reasons this doesn't work. This could include, but is not limited to: a large number of phone numbers, Group contacts contained within the address book, Security/Encryption set by an administrator, memory available on the phone, some third-party applications.

Even without an address book all BlackBerry's since the release of the 8100 (Pearl), the 8700 series although a larger number is an earlier version, have built in Speaker-independent voice recognition, this will give you the ability to access the entire address book via Voice Recognition weather or not is in the Parrot phone book.

However, even if your BlackBerry does not auto sync, you can still add your address book.

You may need to get more familiar with some of the more advanced Bluetooth options on your phone. To find these option go to OPTIONS then BLUETOOTH, press the BlackBerry button, and select OPTIONS (you may need to select FULL MENU then options).

Within this menu you will see a lot of Advanced Options such as your phone's name, the discoverable setting and several other interesting options. The one dealing with how the phone book is transfered is usually called ADDRESS BOOK TRANSFER or CONTACTS TRANSFER. By default, this is usually set to ALL ENTRIES, though there are options for HOT LIST ONLY, NONE and on the newer BlackBerry's SELECTED CATEGORIES ONLY. Which ever of these setting you have selected is what your BlackBerry is going to attempt to synchronize when the Parrot requests the information.

Let's define some of these terms: ALL ENTRIES, and NONE, should be fairly obvious. HOT LIST ONLY: Your BlackBerry will create a self-generated "Hot List" based on your most frequently called numbers. This list usually contains about 20 numbers. SELECTED CATEGORIES ONLY: One of the options you have when you create a new contact in your BlackBerry address book, or edit an existing contact, is to have it in a Category. By default the categories you can choose from is Business or Personal, but you can create new categories within the Address book menu. Your category could contain just one Contact, or it could container 1,000 numbers. A category should not be confused with a group. A category is a group of contacts (such as your Personal, Business, or Lodge Buddies) while a group is a contact type, sometimes set up by a company's IT administrator, so that you can easily e-mail several People at once.

Once you change to one of these settings you may wish to try synchronizes again by simply turning your Parrot off and back on. However, it still may not due to one of the reasons listed earlier. If you have one of the newer BlackBerries, 8100+, you can still transfer the contacts to be stored permanently on the phone, instead of automatically synchronized from the phone.

To transfer the contact list you will want to put the Parrot into the contact receive mode. Once the Parrot is in this mode you will want to go back to the Main Bluetooth menu, OPTIONS/BLUETOOTH, you will then want to select the PARROT and choose TRANSFER ADDRESS BOOK, on some devices it may be called TRANSFER CONTACTS. When you choose this it will transfer the contacts in which we included in the previous setting we changed. This should work, as long as you fall within the limitations of your Parrot phone book , this even works on our more basic units, the CK3000 evolution and PARROT MINIKIT, that only allow you to transfer a single contact at a time, you simply need to make sure that you choose categories that only contain a single contact.

For more information on the limitation of your Parrot's phone book consult the user guide or the FAQ for your device.

If you own a Parrot that allows you to add photos as well, you can do so too. To add pictures for caller ID you will need to go to the Parrot's phone book management menu, choose your contact and choose associate photo. On the BlackBerry navigate to the MEDIA menu. Choose the PHOTO menu, select the photo you wish to associate, and choose SEND USING BLUETOOTH, and then select the PARROT.
